Mapfre Insurance promotes road safety education school campaign in 2012

Mapfre Seguros for 2012 has prepared a full program of activities to promote the teaching of road safety education to pupils aged 4 to 14 years, through numerous measures which will emphasize the promotion of reading and new technologies.
With a structured program that allows articulated and systematic work of road safety in the classroom, most notable among the proposals of this campaign is 'Road Safety in your hands', a project aimed at adolescents who have participated over 1,000 students from 3 and 4 of the ESO and whose purpose is to teach safe driving practices moped through educational materials and support iPad games.
Also, for children, the foundation has organized an activity about creating a book related to driver education, as well as storytelling and 'educational corners'. For elementary students highlights an activity centered on the creation of micro stories related to this matter.
The Mapfre Seguros submits a report, 'Values ​​Education in Road Safety', which shows that only three out of ten students passed in safety. In addition, the worst results are on issues related to responsible use of bicycles and mopeds.
They also "need improvement" in knowledge of the signals of both the vertical (57%) as the agent (60%), and acquire certain habits and vehicle occupants. Most respondents, aged between 5 and 13 years, usually by crossing zebra crossings, no waiting for red lights, plays in the driveway or on the edges of the sidewalks and out of the car without looking back previously.
The report draws attention, finally, on the response of the respondents on the attitudes of their parents: 74% say that sometimes they forget to buckle your seat belt and there are certain aspects of traffic that does not look like a danger (speeding, manipulate the GPS, talking on the phone, etc.).. In addition, 45% of parents do not know some basic rules relating to overtaking cyclists or speed of movement in residential areas."Do not forget that parents are role models for our children and any conduct they copy and take it as good," says Julio Laria, director of the Institute of Road Safety Mapfre Seguros, who call for better collaboration between families and schools to the when carrying out activities related to safety and driver education.
